Student knocked down and killed by a government transit bus in Ibadan

A driver of the Oyo State-owned mass transit bus yesterday knocked down and killed a female secondary school student in Ibadan.
The accident, which attracted other pupils, resulted in a mob attack on the bus, popularly called Ajumose. People vandalised the vehicle by smashing the windscreen and side mirror. The mob attacked the driver, a middle-aged man, who was severely injured in the process.
The accident occurred near Lafia Hospital, Mokola, Ibadan. Other students were also reported to have sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident.
A witness at the scene of the accident said:
“The traffic was light. Pupils were going home. Suddenly, the bus appeared and hit them, killing a secondary school girl. Passengers alighted, but the mob apprehended the driver. He was beaten up before the police rescued him.”
The police command spokesman Adekunle Ajisebutu, in his reaction to the news, said:
“The driver is in our custody, but he is currently at the Police Hospital, Eleyele, where he is undergoing treatment for the injuries he sustained during the mob attack.However, the body of the pupil has been deposited at Alafia Hospital morgue, Ibadan and our men have started their investigations into the incident. We will surely hint the general public with our findings.We also use this medium to console the family of the deceased.” he said.
